The Face

He slowly knelt down next to me after I had fallen on the ground. I paused. I had never been this close to his face before because he usually towered over me. I took a moment to see every last bit of it, wanting to keep it on the surface of my memory forever. His brown hair was messy as usual, with a slight fluff to it now that it was longer. His eyes were a light green, clear enough that I could see my own reflection in his black pupils. They looked at me with a sense of understanding, something that no other eyes were capable of accomplishing. His lashes were slightly long for a boy, curling up towards the ends, complimenting the round shape of his eyelids. I moved my gaze down to his nose. It was slightly too wide for his face, but it was smooth, with no ridge or hook. The smell of his cologne overwhelmed me in a pleasant way, not too much or too little. It was comforting to have something so familiar. His mouth was thin, and his teeth were straight, except for a slight slant in his upper k-nine. He smiled at me, his eyes crinkling with laughter. It made my heart swoon, seeing all his features come together in a way that so accurately showed who he was. He offered me his hand and I took it. My smooth, small palm fit nicely into his big, rough one. I brushed my fingertips softly on his calluses, feeling the rigidity. He must have worked a lot with his hands. Suddenly, a loud scream rippled through the air and he turned his head, letting go.

  3. I loved the miniscule details, like the eyelashes and the one slightly slanted tooth. They gave it a sense of realism and made his face really easy to imagine.
