After Antietam

After the strong smoke had cleared from the battlefield, all I could see was bodies both of the blue and of the grey, and the blood, the blood was everywhere. It ran down the field and road leaving a crimson wave in its path, and when it had dried to a brownish color, that's when it became attractive to the flies. The stench was overpowering, I had never smelled such a stench so strong in my whole life, this field was absolutely covered in flies after the hot sun came out and my nostrils were in so much pain by then. The only sound I could hear aside from the guns firing and the men dying from a few hours ago were the flies buzzing and the ground releasing blood as if I was walking on a giant sponge. I came here to admire the damage that had been done, but now I have to go back to camp so the general can recreate this scene again in a few days.
