Alright, players. Here's the first assignment: write down one poignant detail, one thing that caught your eye today, that gave you a moment of pause. Capture it to the best of your ability. Go back to our readings from Robert Olen Butler and David Foster Wallace. Pay attention to the way they push description, for words that jump off the page and present an image in your mind. Then, if you are feeling ambitious, run with your detail and see where it takes you. Is there a story in that detail that wants to be told, and are you the bird to do it?
