Cathedrals
I'm not a religious person, but I do enjoy the look of cathedrals. There's something very majestic about the way that they look and architecturally they can be quite asthetically pleasing. I've seen lots of beautiful buildings in video games that I've played before, churches being among those buildings, and I have to say every time I see one it gives me pause to think. Recently, I really enjoyed seeing the Weber Chapel Auditorium here on campus. I love the way the cross towers above the building and can be seen from a long way away. The alabaster-colored tapering tower that comes to a point leaves a mark of beauty on my mind and makes me think that if nothing else that is something I'd like my writing to do for readers.

Im aware that this isn't as poetic as the great posts the rest of you had, but I was running late with creating a gmail account and with all the other things I need to write this one was regrettably pushed to the sidelines.
ReplyDeleteI think most religions generally put a lot of time and effort into making their houses of worship aesthetically pleasing to the eye; I think it's a kind of visual propaganda technique to throw this blatant visual candy out into the open right in front of your face. Then again, there are religions that scorn bright colors and frivolous activity, so that may not necessarily be the case. But it does give one a sense of awe in the sense that someone actually took the time out of their day to design such a building, and others took days, months, even years to actually build it, and that's where I get most of my respect for it.
